Welcome to the official launch of #Tomintoul250, where we’ll be coming together to commemorate and celebrate 250 years since the village of Tomintoul was founded by the 4th Duke of Gordon in 1776 in the hope of leading the locals away from illicit whisky distilling and cattle theft, to a more peaceful life in the linen industry.
Whilst the Duke’s plan didn’t quite work out, the village has survived thanks to the resilience of its people and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
During 2026, we’ll be celebrating the village’s history and heritage with a series of events, activities, and projects that will bring the community together and showcase the best of Tomintoul. We’ll be sharing more details about these events and activities in the coming months, and in to next year, so please follow our social media channels and website for updates.
